KB User Group Meeting FAQ
What is the KB User Group Meeting?
The KB User Group Meeting (KB UGM) is our annual gathering of KB admins and partners. Throughout the week, we'll discuss a broad range of topics in the hopes that we can share our experiences, knowledge, and learn from each other.
What types of sessions can I expect and how does it differ from Monthly KB Advisory Group Meetings?
Where KB Advisory Group Meetings are focused on specific updates and changes that have been or are planned to be made to the KB, the KB User Group meeting focuses on high-level topics and discussions. Additionally, the KB User Group Meeting offers opportunities to engage with other KB admins to learn about what others are doing in their respective KB spaces.
The 2026 KB User Group Meeting will be completely virtual, with the exception of an optional in-person networking event at the end of week. Sessions will likely include mix of live presentations and interactive sessions. We try to offer sessions that cover functional areas (e.g. content formatting best practices, outreach to end users, etc.) as well as those that are more focused on technical information (e.g. using the KB APIs, advanced content development, etc.).
We aim to touch on different topics from year-to-year, and we typically finalize a specific agenda for the current year a few weeks in advance of the KB UGM. To get a sense of what might be covered, here is a list of high-level topics that have been covered in some way in the past and/or proposed for this year:
- Formatting/organizing content within documents (e.g. working with templates, creating interactive content, embedding content, etc.)
- Creating accessible and usable content
- What is ahead on the KB's service roadmap
- Ways to use the KB API to embed content in other websites and applications
How do I register, and is there a registration fee?
You can register via our event page on the Webex Events (formerly Socio) events platform. Registration is free. To register:
- Open the event registration page.
- Select the Get Ticket button.
- Fill out the attendee form with the requested information and accept the Terms of Service.
- Click Place Order.
- You are registered! On the confirmation screen, you will have the option to add the event to your calendar. You will receive an email confirming your registration, which will also include an event invite.
What are the technology requirements for attendees?
We've designed the event to be easy to access with minimal software requirements. Everything can be accessed through a standard web browser.
- Note: In some cases, you may be prompted to install a small browser plug-in, but you will not need to install any new desktop applications unless you choose to do so.
Neither UW–Madison login nor authentication is required for any of the event tools. This ensures that participants from partner institutions can fully participate without needing a UW–Madison account.
Event Platforms:
We will use the Webex Events platform as the central hub for event registration and for the week’s agenda. For clarification, Webex Events was formerly known as Socio and is distinct from the Webex video conferencing system. Individual virtual sessions will be hosted in Zoom.
Attendees can access:
- Zoom meeting links
- Session titles
- and session descriptions
directly within the agenda in Webex Events.
You can access them through any web browser, or through the UW Events mobile app.
Live Sessions:
All live presentations and sessions will take place in Zoom.
Some sessions may use additional collaboration and engagement tools. These tools will be browser-based, free to use and accessible without a UW–Madison account.
- Examples include:
- Docs
- Mural
- Mentimeter
- Padlet
Will sessions be recorded?
Yes, the majority of sessions will be recorded and uploaded to Kaltura for viewing after the UGM is over. Sessions involving group discussion, such as breakout rooms, may not be recorded.
For past years, you can find playlists of our recorded sessions in Kaltura.
