Canvas (Known Issue) - Office 365 Collaborations error [Resolved]

Users from several campuses have reported errors when creating or attempting to access Canvas Collaborations with Office 365.

Update 11/14/2019 :

Instructure has resolved the issues with Office 365 Collaborations and Google Collaborations. Full use of the features should be restored. If users experience any further issues with Office 365 Collaborations or Google Collaborations, they should notify their campus Canvas administrators.

Original Known Issue report:

Users are reporting two types of errors:

1) Some users get an error stating “An unexpected error occurred” when creating a new Collaboration with Office 365.

2) Some users get a “This page isn’t working” or “HTTP ERROR 401” when attempting to access an existing Collaboration with Office 365.

HTTP ERROR 401

It is currently unknown if the issue impacts all users and all Collaborations with Office 365.

Status

The UWSA DLE team is working with Instructure to determine the scope of the issue and possible solutions.

Workaround

We recommend that instructors create collaborative documents directly in Office 365 through the Office 365 menu item in the course navigation and then manually share Office 365 documents with the class.

Caution: Instructure Support sometimes recommends that users with issues like this “remove their Office 365 LTI token” to revoke Microsoft’s permissions to access Canvas for this user. We recommend against this step, as it will break any existing Collaborations the user has.
