Canvas - Support Admin Role Change (07/26/22)

The Manage Course > Courses - delete permission was removed from the Support Admin role in all UW-System instances (except UW-Madison) of Canvas on July 26, 2022.

This change impacts the Instructional, Training & Development, and Continuing Education instances of Canvas, and was previewed in an earlier announcement.

In the past, Canvas's "Courses - delete" permission was grouped with other course management settings, which Support Admins needed. Canvas permissions have become more granular, so now the delete course permission can be removed while retaining other course management permissions. The Roles and Permissions work group has reviewed the change to permissions and recommended this change to meet data security and records management requirements.

If a course needs to be deleted, it can be deleted through the Student Information System integration (by deleting the course in PeopleSoft) or by a user with the Canvas Institutional Admin role.
