Canvas - UDOIT Advantage Course Accessibility Scoring Criteria

UDOIT Advantage is available in the Universities of Wisconsin (excluding Madison) Digital Learning Environment (all Canvas instances). It checks Canvas course content and files for several accessibility issues, and assigns varying severity levels behind the scenes, based on their impact to users.

Issues UDOIT finds are then grouped logically into sets of related issues, called "Issue Types." More information on the items that UDOIT Advantage checks can be found in this guide: What Does UDOIT Look For?: UDOIT User Guide  

The Scorecard is a customizable rubric that sorts these Issue Types into three categories of impact (HighMedium, and Low), provides a percentage score for each Impact Category (based on the severity of issues), and calculates them with varying weights (according to their impact) to return an overall Course Accessibility Score (How Does Scoring Work?: UDOIT User Guide) 

Based on feedback from systemwide groups, the Impact Category items and weighting have been updated for all UW campuses to reflect the below  are configuration:

High Impact Items (60% weighting)

  • Color
  • Embedded Media
  • Images
  • Links
  • Page Headings
  • Page Structure
  • Styled Headings
  • Video Captions
  • Issues with PDF files
  • Issues with PPT files
  • Issues with Word files
  • Issues with Excel files

Medium Impact Items (30% weighting)

  • Media Links
  • Table Headers
  • Deprecated HTML

 Low Impact Items (10% weighting)

  • Video Connection
