Mac OS X - "Disk Error" Installing WinXP in Boot Camp

When installing Windows XP in Boot Camp 2.0 with Mac OS X 10.5, you may receive the message "Press any key to boot from CD. Disk Error. Press any key to restart".

These products are no longer actively supported by Microsoft. No further development will take place on these products and security updates are no longer issued. It is highly recommended that you upgrade to Windows 10 or 8.


This error will occur during the Windows install if either the option "Leave the current file system intact (no changes)" or "Convert the partition to NTFS" were selected.


After creating a Windows partition in Boot Camp 2.0 in Mac OS X 10.5, reboot from the Windows XP installer CD. Format the Windows partition before continuing with the rest of the Windows XP setup process. Do not select "Leave the current file system intact (no changes)" or "Convert the partition to NTFS" or the installation may fail.
