Windows 8 - Using the Search Function

The Search feature of Windows 7 allows you to search your hard drive for files.

  1. Open the start menu by pressing the Windows key. Alternatively, hover your cursor in the bottom-left area of the screen until the Start image appears and click.

  2. Start typing your search query. As you type a search, results appear on the left. App search is selected by default, but you can also change the filter to search for settings (including control panels) and files.

    • To jump straight into an Apps search, use Windows Key+Q. This is generally unnecessary because the search function defaults to Apps.
    • To jump straight into a Settings search, use Windows Key+W.
    • To jump straight into a Files search, use Windows Key+F.
