UW-Madison No Report (NR) Grade

This section explains what it means if an undergraduate student receives a grade of "NR" in L&S.

What does it mean if I receive a No Report (NR) grade?

This designation of "No Report" is given at the end of the semester to courses only when no other grade has been reported.   This grade is not included in a student's GPA calculations.  If you receive this grade, you should speak to the instructor of the course for more assistance to get the appropriate grade posted.
  • NR grade should only be used if no valid grade can be assigned and the grading application is requiring the instructor to report a grade.  The NR grade is recorded by the Registrar's Office when an instructor has not reported a grade for a student.  Instructors should never use the NR grade to report a student's progress in a class.
  • The NR grade is only a temporary grade that is assigned when grades are not submitted by the instructor before the grading deadline.  A final grade is expected to replace the NR grade.
More information about the NR grade can be found at valid instructor-assigned grades.
