Internet Explorer 6 (Windows XP) - Status Bar Display Disappears

This document explains how make the status bar appear in Internet Explorer 6 if it has disappeared.

Windows 9x/2000/XP/Vista

    SYMPTOM

    The status bar in Internet Explorer(IE) 6 on Windows XP doesn't remain displayed. If the current IE window has a status bar and you spawn a new window that one won't have a status bar.

    SOLUTION

    1. With only one IE open, click View
    2. Select Status Bar.
    3. Hold down the Ctrl key and click the Close button.
    4. Open Windows Explorer (Start -> Programs -> Accessories - Windows Explorer).
    5. Click View.
    6. Select Status Bar.
    7. Click Tools->Folder Options->View tab.
    8. Click the Apply to all folders button.
