Cybersecurity Awareness Training - FAQs

This document answers Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about the Cybersecurity Awareness Training.

How do I access the Cybersecurity Awareness Training?

Go to the Cybersecurity Awareness Training webpage (Source: it.wisc.edu) and choose either Training Option 1 or Training Option 2. Then, log in to that option using your UW NetID.

Is the training ADA compliant?

At this time, Training Option 1 is not ADA compliant, but Training Option 2 is. For more information on the accessibility and usability of Training Option 1 and how to get assistance or report an accessibility barrier, see the Cybersecurity Awareness Training - Accessibility & Usability Information (Source: kb.wisc.edu).

Why do I have to take the Training?

This training is mandated by the Board of Regents and President Thompson per UW System Administrative Policy 1032 (Source: Wisconsin.edu).

Learning how to be more cyber secure is also an important part of keeping data, privacy, and IT systems protected and secure.

How long will it take me to complete the training?

If you choose to do it in one sitting, it should take approximately 20 minutes or less.

How will I know when I've completed the training?

For Training Option 1, you will know when you have completed the training when you have earned two related badges in your training dashboard. Your badges are earned by:

  1. Reading and acknowledging the UWSA Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources Policy (Source: Wisconsin.edu) in the training platform. Once completed, you will earn the Acceptable Use Policy badge.
  2. Answering the next 20 questions in the training module. This provides you with the 2021 Cybersecurity Awareness Training badge. Earning both badges will complete your requirement.

For Training Option 2, you will know when you have completed the training when you reach a page that says, "Congratulations! You have finished your Cybersecurity Awareness Training for 2021." You must go through the content and agree to follow the UWSA Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources Policy (Source: Wisconsin.edu) for this message to show.

How can I verify that I've completed the Cybersecurity Awareness Training for 2021?

You can check your official UW–Madison transcript. You can access your transcript on the Office of Human Resources site (Source: hr.wisc.edu) under "Review Your Course History." Please allow 24 hours after taking the training for your transcript to be updated.

I completed my cybersecurity training through my department/at another UW System campus. Do I have to complete this training too?

If you've taken cybersecurity training at another campus or in another department for 2021, you do not have to take this training. Please email a copy of your completion certificate to cybersecurityawareness@cio.wisc.edu, and you will be removed from the Cybersecurity Awareness Training for UW–Madison.

What do I do if I don’t know the answer to a question?

It’s perfectly fine to not know the answer to a question. You can look for the answer online or you can guess. You can learn more about the correct answer in the information that appears after you answer. This will help you know the right answer the next time.

Can I correct a “wrong answer”?

There is no need to correct a wrong answer. “Wrong Answers” are opportunities to learn. In the future, a similar question may appear, and you’ll then have the opportunity to answer it correctly.

How do I change my picture in Training Option 1?

  1. Click on the drop down arrow near your name in the upper right corner.
  2. Select “Profile Settings.” This will open a screen with your current image.
  3. Below the image, click on “Change Avatar.”
  4. Select from the available avatars.
  5. Click “Save Avatar.”

How can I add myself to the Leaderboard in Training Option 1?

  1. Click on the drop down arrow near your name in the upper right corner.
  2. Go to “Profile Settings.”
  3. At the bottom of the page, you will see “Leaderboard Visibility.” Slide the button to the right to add yourself to the Leaderboard.
  4. Click on the red “Save Changes” button.
