Help Desk - DoIT Repair Departmental Repairs or Referrals for Personal Repairs

This outlines options for hardware repairs on personal and departmentally owned computers

DoIT Repair is ending in-shop hardware repair. The following is what to expect for both personal and departmental machines.

Personal Machines

We provide remote walk-in, phones, chat, and email support. Walk-In will still perform triage and troubleshooting services. Software repairs (format re-installs, virus removal, etc) are still being offered and the machine can be checked into Repair at the walk-in Help Desk.

For personal device hardware repairs please see the following list of local computer repair vendors (For most up to date hours and locations, please visit the business' website. This is a list of repair shops that we found in the Madison area, there may be others that we missed. This list is for convenience purposes only and not an endorsement):

Departmental Machines

  • If you are on campus you can submit a departmental repair request here: https://it.wisc.edu/departmental-repair-service-request-form/
  • Computers (Dell or Apple only) in need of hardware services can be checked in at the walk-in Help Desk and will be serviced by one of our contracted vendors:
    • Dell machines (Vanguard)
    • Apple machines (Graphite)
    • Vendors can perform warranty repairs for official Dell or Apple warranties
    • If there is a cost for the repair, Graphite or Vanguard will reach out to the person who checked in the computer for cost/repair approval and payment unless otherwise stated at the time of check-in. There is usually a minimum cost for initial diagnostics for any out of warranty hardware repair:
      • Vanguard: $65 diagnostic, goes towards first hour of labor
      • Graphite: $99 diagnostic, goes towards first hour of labor
  • Refer to Shipping to the DoIT Help Desk: Computer Repair and Loaner Equipment  if you would like to ship a computer to us from a location that is not on campus. DoIT will not cover shipping fees or insurance and not liable for any damages or lost/stolen packages during transit.
