Audacity - Playing Audio

This document gives you instructions so you will be able to play audio using various commands.

To play audio from the beginning, press the Spacebar. This can also be done by selecting the Play button, the green arrow in the top left corner.

Selecting Specific Audio Segments

To select a specific segment of the audio file, the Selection Tool is used. This tool is the default tool in use when you open up the Audacity program. It looks like the I-Beam used in word processing programs such as Microsoft Word and Google Docs.

  1. Select the Selection Tool from the toolbar, to the right of the Play/Pause/Record controls.
  2. Select whichever section of the audio track is desired by Left-Clicking the start point and dragging to the end point of the section desired. Let go of the Left-Mouse button.
  3. Pressing the Spacebar or the Play button will now start the audio playback from the start of your selection and will only play the selected portion.
  4. Alternatively, the Selection Tool can be used to start the audio at different part of the track without being used to select a portion of the track. This can be done just by clicking on the desired start point of the track.
