Downloading Files - Error when downloading file

Group policy blocking files.

Overview

In order to block a particularly nasty virus (Cryptolocker), UW Oshkosh Information Technology blocks some types of applications from running. Certain applications will be blocked during install and receive the following error message:

"This program is blocked by group policy. For more information, contact your system administrator."

or

"You do not have Administrative Rights"

What type of Downloads may cause this issue

7 zip files and executable files that extract to the appdata folder

Solution

  1. Right Click on the zip or exe folder
  2. Save the file if needed (to a temporary location like the desktop)
  3. Extract the files to a temporary location like the desktop
  4. You should be able to open/or run the files
