(Madison) Microfilm Check-in Process

This is the microfilm reel check in process for Madison's Serials staff.
Microfilm check in process for Madison Serials staff:
  • Check the reel in on the microfilm record. (Verify that it is not the print record.)
  • Some records will have more than one holding. Check for current holding/current dates.
  • Create item record including year/month/dates (e.g.: Sunday Times would look like: 2026: May 3, 10)
  • Material type in the item record is “microfilm” (not "Issue")
  • We do NOT barcode or update the holdings. (Cataloging staff will barcode and update the holding.)
  • We write the call number, located in the 852, on the opposite side of the title & date label. Write in pen (not pencil).
  • The microfilm boxes then go to the Microfilm shelf in Cataloging (shelving near Ecats).
