Directory Search (Mac) - Configuring Outlook for Mac

NOTE: This document applies to Outlook 2016 for Mac, released in late 2015. For information about how to complete this task using the previous version of Outlook available for Mac, see: [Link for document 15145 is unavailable at this time]
UW accounts that have not yet migrated to Office 365 will not be visible in the Global Address List (GAL) and will need to be searched using the UW Directory. This service can be used to look up email addresses based on names as they appear in the UW-Madison Directory Search (White Pages).

  1. Launch Outlook.

  2. Select "Accounts..." from 'Tools' menu.

  3. Click on the "+" sign and select "Directory Service..." from the drop down menu.

  4. In the "LDAP server:" field, enter

    Place a check mark within "Override default port" check box and enter "389" for the port.

    Un-check "Use SSL to connect (recommended)" check box

  5. Click Add Account button.

  6. On the account description screen, enter Directory Search within the "Account description" field.

  7. Click Advanced... button.

  8. On the "LDAP search options" screen, enter the following "Search base:" dc=wisc,dc=edu, and set the "Maximum number of results to return" to 999

  9. Click OK button to continue.

  10. Close out of 'Accounts' window. Outlook is now able to search the LDAP (Whitepages) directory!
