Office 365 (Thunderbird) - Change your display name

This document contains instructions on using a non-Microsoft email client, such as Apple Mail or Thunderbird. Microsoft does not recommend these clients for use with Office 365, and there are often significant limitations in client functionality as a result.

Because of this, the DoIT Help Desk is only able to offer best effort support for these clients, and certain issues may require the use of a Microsoft client in order to be resolved. This document will provide you step-by-step instructions on how to change your display name. Your display name is the name other people see when they receive an email from you.

  1. Open Thunderbird
  2. From the menu button to the right of the search bar select Preference then Account Settings (For Windows select View Account Settings under Accounts in the main menu)
  3. On the right of the pop-up box under Default Identity, you will see a Your Name field.

  4. Edit your name to what you would like it displayed as when other people receive your emails
  5. Click OK
