Have Questions about Central IRBs and Studies Involving Multiple Institutions?
An increasing number of federal granting agencies are requesting or requiring the use of a central or single IRB of record. This trend reflects a similar increase in the number of studies involving collaborations among multiple institutions. The HS-IRBs office has extensive experience in establishing partnerships with IRBs across the country and is a founding member of several IRB consortia. In addition to Collaborative Research and Single IRB Review resources on our website, HS-IRBs staff are available to assist study teams in addressing issues that arise with central IRBs and handling IRB reviews across multiple institutions. We are best able to assist study teams when contacted early in the planning process and before grant proposals are submitted.
If you have questions about central IRBs or IRB review for multisite or collaborative research projects, please contact Carol Pech (firstname.lastname@example.org). For assistance with community-based research projects, please contact Staci Taylor Lowe (email@example.com).
Reminder: FAQ on Continuing Review Applications + Changes of Protocol The HS-IRBs' office receives a lot of questions about when a continuing review should be submitted when a change of protocol also needs to be submitted. Please see I have a change of protocol and a continuing review coming up. Which should I submit first? for guidance or email firstname.lastname@example.org for assistance.
