UW-Madison is engaged in human subjects research when:
- Any UW-Madison employee conducts human subjects research;
- Investigators unaffiliated with UW-Madison use any UW-Madison resource, property or facility to conduct human subject research OR;
- UW-Madison receives a federal award to conduct human subject research, even if all activities involving human subjects are carried out by a subcontractor or collaborator.
