Save to OneDrive, Teams, or SharePoint
OneDrive, Teams and SharePoint are all cloud-based storage locations available for use. This document provides recommendations on which location to save files to.
OneDrive:
OneDrive is your individual working space that remains private until you share things. OneDrive provides the following:
- Individual work files
- Location for drafting files before sharing
- Project/Operational files
- Desktop/Documents/Photos Folders are located here
- This replaces your personal network drive
Microsoft Teams:
Teams is designed for small groups of people (team/groups/project) to communicate and collaborate both internally and externally. Teams provides the following:
- Space to collaborate on documents
- Other capabilities include:
- File sharing
- Instant messaging
- Voice Calling
- Video Conferencing
- Uses SharePoint to store documents and can save directly to, from M365 applications
- Replaces shared drives (file server)
- Supplements email attachments for collaboration
SharePoint:
SharePoint is designed as a working and publishing space for large (functional organization/department) groups of people to communicate. SharePoint provides the following:
- Organizational/Departmental wide data that can be shared with the public
- Publishing sites/spaces designed for external sharing of information
- Communication sites
- Most intranet sites for Universities of Wisconsin employees
- Supplements and replaces shared drives (file server) and email attachments
