Engage - Known Issue - Unizin Read and Canvas mobile app issues [UW-Madison]
This document describes issues to be aware of when using the Unizin Read mobile app to read an eText, the inability to use Engage with the Canvas mobile app, and suggests a potential workaround.
The Engage eText tool works best when accessed via Chrome or Firefox on a computer with an internet connection in order to access all its features.
A mobile app called Unizin Read is available on both iOS and Android. While the app does allow you to download materials to your tablet or phone for offline reading, users cannot create highlights, questions, or see annotations created in Engage via a browser or shared annotations within the mobile app. Bookmarks and notes you create in Unizin Read are not available when accessing Engage from a browser - they are totally separate. Users will also not be able to access Engage via the Canvas mobile app on either iOS or Android.
For users who decide they would still like to use the Unizin Read app, more information on how to use it is available on Unizin's Engage Knowledge Base.
Issue Affects
This issue affects:
- Unizin Read app on both iOS and Android
- Canvas mobile app on both iOS and Android
Workaround
Users can use Chrome or Firefox on their iOS or Android device to access their course via Canvas and then launch Engage from the course navigation but may find they need to zoom and pan to read the text on a smaller screen. Make sure you do so when connected to a wireless network to avoid cellular data charges.
