Cells and Cell Cultures

At UW-Madison, human cell lines, regardless if they are established or primary cell lines, require BSL-2 practices. See the <UW-Madison Researchers’ Biosafety Manual> for details.

If you are working with non-infectious, non-recombinant animal cell lines that are not human or non-human primate in origin and you are not administering infectious or recombinant material to the cells, they do not need to be listed in this section.

Organs, Tissues or Biological Specimens

At UW-Madison, human materials require BSL-2 practices. See the <UW-Madison Researchers’ Biosafety Manual> for details.

If you are working with non-infectious, non-recombinant animal organs, tissues or biological specimens that are not human or non-human primate in origin and you are not administering infectious or recombinant material to the cells, they do not need to be listed in this section.
