Red Bike Project of Madison / Budget Bicycle Center
Since 1996, the Red Bike Project’s mission is to encourage the use of bicycles by providing a zero cost transportation alternative to motor vehicles. Budget Bicycle Center maintains a fleet bicycles as a public service to residents, students and visitors of Madison, WI. A credit card is required to check out a bike and lock. The cost is completely free when the bike is returned. All Red Bikes must be returned by the end of the season, typically set near the end of November. The bicycles are serviced by Budget Bicycle Center during the summer whenever service is needed, completely free of charge.
Every year the Red Bike Project of Madison starts in the spring (as soon as the snow stops). You can come to Budget Bicycle Center Used located at 930 Regent Street to check out a Red Bike. An imprint of your credit card for an authorization of $100 is required as a deposit -- if you do not return the Red Bike before November 20th, you will be charged the $100 deposit. Locks are provided if you don’t already have your own.
